I’m not sure I have the answer to this question in totality. What I do know is that each of us have something that strikes a chord in us, and when that chord is strummed, we take some sort of action. There are athletes taking heat for their decisions to kneel during the National Anthem. I can’t say whether it is right or wrong. What I can say is that they have a right to what they feel and their actions are nonviolent. Some may find it offensive, but it is not an act of terror or treason. To them, it symbolizes a stance against injustice. I’ve seen videos and read articles that literally make me shake my head. I mean, at what point is it ever okay to call someone out of their name, or to belittle what they do professionally because you feel a certain way about their personal actions? I’m about to let the issue rest, but my real question is why is there so much heat thrown on those who are doing this? I know we value the flag and the anthem is meaningful, but does that mean we don’t value the issues that are at the center of these acts of “protest?” When do we look at the issues and stop bashing people who are really just trying to bring attention to them.
The article below helps me put this in perspective.
Have a good day folks!
